Putin Highlights Strong Russia-Azerbaijan Economic Ties During Meeting with Aliyev in Baku

In a bid to strengthen bilateral relations, Russia and Azerbaijan have identified agriculture as a cornerstone of future cooperation. During discussions held in Baku, Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of agriculture as one of the priority areas for development following the signing of a roadmap in January 2024, outlining key sectors of cooperation for 2024-2026.

Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia are ready to deepen their energy ties, as official discussions suggest the formation of a trilateral gas cooperation pact that could potentially alter regional energy dynamics. Tehran has expressed strong interest in facilitating the transit of Russian gas through its territory, a move that could create new supply routes for Moscow and increase Azerbaijan’s export potential.

According to the latest data from the State Statistics Committee, agricultural production in Azerbaijan showed modest growth from January to July 2024. The total value of agricultural products reached 7.508 billion manats, which is 0.8% more than during the same period in 2023.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the "fruitful work" of the Azerbaijan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Monday. The commission had convened in Baku on August 9 to discuss avenues for further cooperation, laying the groundwork for Putin's upcoming visit to Azerbaijan.
