Religious institutions to have limit of free gas usage in Azerbaijan
According to SOCAR’s decision, a maximum limit of free gas usage by the sites performing religious rituals and the objects of pilgrimage owned by all religious institutions operating in Azerbaijan is now fixed at 5,000 cub.m. a year.
In autumn 2013 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to provide free gas to all mosques and temples operating in Azerbaijan and on December 30, 2013 SOCAR made a decision to supply free gas to the religious institutions from 2014.
"Only the religious organizations passed through the state registration will be supplied with free gas,” a source from Azerigas said.
Average annual volume of gas consumption by the above-mentioned organizations totaled 1953 cub.m.
“However, we have to establish a limit of 5,000 cub.m., because some organizations use more gas and others less. If the limit is exceeded, the organizations will have to pay a difference for the gas consumed above the limit,” a source from Azerigas said.—0—

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
