The end of the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan opens perspectives for TRACECA
Baku/07.05.21/Turan: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov and the General Secretary of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, Aset Asavbayev, discussed on 6 May the possibility of expanding cooperation in the region after the military phase of the Karabakh conflict settlement.
Asavbayev stressed that, at this stage there are ample opportunities for TRACECA to implement major projects by expanding transport lines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The General Secretary reported on the geographical expansion of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international transport corridor.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the total volume of freight transported via Azerbaijan within TRACECA from January to November 2020 was 35,549,700 tons.
On the regional agenda today is the opening of transport links from Azerbaijan to Armenia and then on to Iran and Turkey, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan of 10 November 2020, brokered by Russia and supported by the EU.
TRACECA is a special project within the framework of EU technical assistance to the Commonwealth of Independent States in the field of transport transit routes.
TRACECA project was established in 1993 on the basis of the Brussels Declaration with the participation of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Moldova, Mongolia and Ukraine soon joined the project; Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria in 2000, and Iran in 2009.-0-

Data on Azerbaijan's oil exports for January-October 2024 reveals a significant drop in both volume and value compared to the same period last year, highlighting the challenges facing the oil-dependent economy. The country exported 495,484.05 tons of oil products worth $309.02 million, a decrease of 40.3% in value and 40.7% in volume compared to 2023, when exports totaled 925,225.07 tons worth $572.21 million.
