Azerbaijani President approves new law on Energy
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved a new law "On Energy"; it comes into force from the date of publication. According to the law, it establishes the general legal, economic and managerial foundations for activities in the field of energy, ensuring energy security, creating a healthy competitive environment that supports sustainable economic development, providing consumers with reliable, high-quality energy, and defines mechanisms for providing affordable and safe energy. In general, the law consists of 6 sections and 28 Articles.
According to the law, a free consumer (whose annual electricity consumption rate is determined by the relevant government agency) has the right to independently choose an electricity supplier. But this opportunity will appear from July 1, 2025. In addition, some Articles of the law, including those relating to the content of information provided by the energy supplier to its consumer, which are determined by the regulatory authority, will enter into force on July 1, 2028. With the entry into force of this law, the law "On Energy", adopted in 1998, becomes invalid. –0--

In January-November of this year, solar power plants in Azerbaijan generated 520.2 million kWh of electricity, the monthly statistics report from the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to the data, this is an increase of 457.9 million kWh (8.4 times) compared to the same period last year.
