Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan will increase gas exports to Turkey
Baku/14.06.23/Turan: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has announced that Baku and Ankara have reached an agreement to increase the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey.
During a joint press statement with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Aliyev stated, "The export of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey is growing, growing every year, and today we have agreed that it will continue to increase. At the same time, the export of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through Turkey is increasing, and there is great demand for this."
Aliyev also highlighted that energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey extends beyond gas, mentioning discussions on renewable energy sources. He emphasized active collaboration in the areas of oil, gas, petroleum products, petrochemicals, and electricity.
Erdogan acknowledged the longstanding energy sector collaboration between the two countries, particularly mentioning the TAP and TANAP gas pipelines. He emphasized the importance of gas supplies through Turkey for Europe, noting that Europe is eager to resolve its gas supply issues and frequently requests gas through Turkey. Erdogan pledged continued efforts to meet Europe's demands.
Azerbaijan supplies gas to Turkey from the Shah Deniz field through Stage-1 and Stage-2 developments. In 2022, Azerbaijan exported a total of 8.71 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey. Due to the high demand for Azerbaijani gas in Europe, gas sales to Turkey decreased by 1.3% compared to 2021.
Planned gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Turkey in 2023 are expected to reach 10.2 billion cubic meters.
