Central Bank of Azerbaijan increased foreign exchange reserves by 33%
Central Bank of Azerbaijan Reports Robust Foreign Exchange Reserves Growth
As of the close of November 2023, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan revealed foreign exchange reserves totaling USD 10,615.9 million, marking a 1% increase from the previous month, as detailed on the institution's official website.
The data further illuminates a noteworthy 18% surge in the Central Bank's foreign exchange reserves compared to the conclusion of the previous year, showcasing a resilient financial position. Over the course of the past 12 months, the reserves exhibited a robust expansion of 33.2%, underscoring the nation's economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
The surge in reserves traces back to 2022 when the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan Republic (SOFAR) witnessed foreign exchange reserves surpassing a staggering $45 billion, propelled by buoyant oil prices. This surge in SOFAR's reserves played a pivotal role in the overall increase of Azerbaijan's foreign exchange reserves, culminating in a strategic reserve of approximately $56 billion by the end of last year.
A noteworthy metric, as of December 31, 2022, indicates that Azerbaijan's strategic foreign exchange reserves provide coverage for imports of goods and services for an impressive 35 months. This underscores the country's prudent fiscal management and ability to navigate economic challenges.
Further analysis reveals that the strategic reserves at the conclusion of 2022 stood at 74% of the nation's GDP, demonstrating a robust financial foundation. Moreover, these reserves exceeded the money supply in manats (M2 aggregate) by a substantial 3.4 times, based on the M2 monetary aggregate as of January 1, 2023, illustrating the Central Bank's commitment to maintaining a solid economic footing.
As Azerbaijan continues to fortify its economic position, the sustained growth in foreign exchange reserves serves as a testament to the nation's proactive economic policies and resilience in the face of global financial dynamics.--0--
