A cargo of explosives en route to Russia was detained in Georgia
РБК: A cargo with several explosive devices and a large amount of explosives en route to Russia was detained in Georgia, 1tv.ge reports with reference to the State Security Service.
The explosives were delivered from Odessa through Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey to Georgia on January 19, they were imported through the Sarp checkpoint on the Turkish-Georgian border in a minivan belonging to a Ukrainian citizen. Then the cargo was supposed to get to Russia, to Voronezh, through the Daryal checkpoint.
The explosive devices and explosives were transported in two batteries intended for an electric vehicle, which were used as containers. They were discovered during a search of the car by employees of the anti-terrorism center. Each one contained six explosive devices.
“It has been established that the explosive devices contain military-grade C-4 explosives, which can be activated using an electric detonator and a special timer. The total weight of the explosive reaches 14 kilograms. 6 units of detonators and 6 units of special keys were also placed in the containers. The same number of electronic activation timers were installed in all six separate explosive device boxes, in which the activation time was already programmed,” the department said.
According to the service, 7 people from Georgia, 3 people from Ukraine and 2 people from Armenia are involved in the transportation of explosives. It was organized by Andrei Sharashidze, who ran for deputy of the Odessa Rada in 2020 from the Servant of the People party; he is originally from Batumi.
