Charles Michel will leave his post as head of the European Council early
РБК: The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has announced his intention to participate in the European Parliament elections in the summer of 2024, writes La Libre.
“I will lead the list [of the Belgian Reform Movement party] in the European elections,” Michel said (quoted by RTL info).
Thus, if elected to parliament, he will leave his post in the European Council in July, a few months before the end of his mandate.
Elections for members of the European Parliament will be held from June 6 to June 9, 2024.
If elected, Michel will serve as acting head of the European Council until he is sworn in as a parliamentarian on July 16. According to the Chairman of the European Council, his successor will be chosen at the end of June - beginning of July.
Michelle has held her post since December 2019. His predecessor was Donald Tusk.
