In Alma-Ata, residents showed fortitude and courage
Baku/01.08.23/Turan: In Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, a harrowing incident unfolded as residents of a high-rise building resorted to desperate measures to escape a fire. The blaze originated in an apartment on the fifth floor of a 16-storey building in the Akkent microdistrict, causing it to rapidly spread to the electric cables of the elevator shaft. The extent of the fire's reach has been determined.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported that more than 250 individuals from the upper floors were successfully evacuated, with 40 residents rescued using a car ladder. Thankfully, the latest reports indicate that the fire has been completely extinguished, and no casualties have been reported.
However, footage circulating on the internet paints a vivid picture of the terrifying ordeal faced by the residents. The video captures heart-stopping moments as people from the upper floors were forced to leap from windows to escape the flames. In one instance, a woman was seen throwing a child from a balcony before jumping out herself. Miraculously, eyewitnesses and neighbors waiting below managed to catch them using mattresses and blankets, preventing further tragedy.
The incident has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of swift and efficient emergency responses in such critical situations. The resilience of the residents and the courage of those who came to their aid during this crisis have a testament to the human spirit's strength in times of peril.
