The FT reported on the possible approval by the EU on Monday of the 12th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation
INTERFAX.RU: On Monday, the European Union may approve the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT) with reference to unnamed EU diplomats.
According to the FT's interlocutors, 26 of the 27 EU countries have given their consent to the new sanctions.
The publication notes that in addition to introducing new bans, the EU wants to loosen import controls on some luxury goods.
On Sunday night, European media, citing sources, reported that Austria, which had blocked the approval of the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia, had withdrawn objections.
In November, Bloomberg, citing internal European documents, reported that the European Union, as part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, proposes to impose a ban on the export of certain types of machine tools and parts for them.
In November, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrel, said that the proposed 12th package of sanctions includes, in particular, restrictions on Russian diamonds, measures to increase the effectiveness of the ceiling on oil prices from the Russian Federation.
The EU adopted the previous package of sanctions in June 2023.
