Turkish Company Gifts Bayraktar TB2 Attack UAV to Ukrainian Defense Intelligence
Baku/25.08.23/Turan: On Ukraine's Independence Day, Turkish drone manufacturer "Baykar Makina" delivered a Bayraktar TB2 attack unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to the intelligence division of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to a statement from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In an unconventional gesture of solidarity, Baykar Makina chose Independence Day, marked on August 24th, to gift Ukraine with the Bayraktar TB2 UAV. The move was met with appreciation by Ukrainian officials, who acknowledged the significance of receiving advanced military technology as a token of friendship.
The press release from the Ukrainian intelligence service expressed gratitude to international allies who continue to stand by the country during challenging times. The statement highlighted that the Bayraktar TB2 UAV would serve as a valuable asset in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and independence.
Ukraine's engagement with the Bayraktar TB2 UAV began in 2019 when the country acquired these operational-tactical drones equipped with precision-guided MAM-L aerial bombs from Turkish manufacturer Roketsan. The Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted tests and integrated the drones into their operations. Additionally, Ukraine procured high-precision light MAM-L munitions and other precision armaments.
Early in the conflict, Ukraine had deployed between 12 to 20 Bayraktar TB2 drones for combat missions. Notably, Israeli security expert Sergei Migdal emphasized that a single Bayraktar UAV possesses the capability to effectively monitor the entire demarcation line between the Ukrainian armed forces and militant groups.
However, the use of these drones witnessed a notable decline due to reported losses. It is estimated that Ukraine had lost around 130 Bayraktar TB2 drones by the close of September this year. These losses have played a pivotal role in the reduced utilization of the aforementioned drones by the Ukrainian military.
