A criminal case has been opened on the fact of violation of the state border of Azerbaijan by an Armenian saboteur
Baku/16.08.23/Turan: An Armenian saboteur's breach of the state border in Kelbajar district has prompted the initiation of a criminal case, according to a statement released by the Prosecutor General's Office and reported by Turan. On August 16, the Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office began an inquiry into the violation of the Republic of Azerbaijan's state border by a sabotage and intelligence unit affiliated with Armenia's Armed Forces. The incident transpired along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border within the confines of the Kelbajar district.
The Prosecutor General's Office underscored that their investigation uncovered a premeditated coordination of actions among a group of individuals, including members of the Armenian Armed Forces. On the aforementioned date around 11 a.m., this collective unlawfully entered the fortified state border of Azerbaijan, evading established customs checkpoints. The probe yielded reasonable suspicion that, acting in unison, these individuals menaced the soldiers stationed at the Istisu village military unit in Kelbajar district with the deployment of firearms. Furthermore, they hatched a terrorist plot aimed at influencing decisions pertaining to Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, with the intention of instigating national animosity and causing harm, even loss of life.
Significantly, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces apprehended one member of the sabotage group and confiscated weapons and related equipment. The Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office has commenced a criminal case under several sections of the Criminal Code, including but not limited to the smuggling of firearms and ammunition by an organized group (Article 206.3.2), terrorism committed by an organized group using firearms (Articles 214.2.1 and 214.2.3), illegal acquisition, transportation, and storage of firearms by an organized group (Article 228.2.1), incitement of national enmity through the use of force (Article 283.2.1), and illegal crossing of Azerbaijan's state border by a pre-organized group with the use of force (Article 318.2). The Investigative Department is presently conducting a preliminary investigation under the directive of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The investigative team assembled to handle this case is actively pursuing essential investigative measures, as stated by the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office.-0--
