A separatist involved in the large-scale killings of civilians in an Azerbaijani village in Karabakh has been apprehended in Lachin
Baku/29.07.23/Turan: On July 29, Vagif Cherkezovich Khachaturian, born in 1955, was detained at the Lachin checkpoint while trying to travel to Armenia allegedly to undergo treatment in the car of the International Committee of the Red Cross. He was wanted by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan and in the past he was put on the international wanted list.
Vagif Khachaturian, originally from the village of Badara, Askeran district, has been wanted since November 12, 2013 in connection with his involvement in a crime that occurred on December 22, 1991 in the village of Meshele, Khojaly district.
He is accused of being part of a group consisting of people of Armenian nationality who attacked the village of Mesheli in the Khojaly district with the aim of committing ethnic murders. During the attack, they used an infantry fighting vehicle and firearms, as a result of which 25 Azerbaijanis were killed, another 14 were injured, and 358 Azerbaijanis were forcibly displaced from their homes.
Vagif Khachaturian will be placed in a medical facility in Baku, and representatives of the International Red Cross will meet with him.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan also stated that efforts are continuing to detain other persons involved in this crime.--0--
