Alexandra Lapshin can be extradited to Israel
Baku / 26.07.17 / Turan: Alexander Lapshin does not want to challenge in court the verdict of the Baku Court for Serious Crimes to deprive him of his liberty for a period of three years. He wants to be extradited to Israel, Turan was informed by his lawyer Eduard Chernin.According to him, the blogger did not express a desire to file an appeal.Today, on July 26, a representative of the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan visited the imprisoned blogger. Alexander Lapshin expressed his desire to be extradited to Israel. After the meeting with the client the lawyer said that he could start the necessary legal procedures for extradition.
The Ministry of Justice did not rule out the extradition of Alexander Lapshin to Israel. According to the head of the Human Rights and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Justice Faik Gurbanov, the treatment of the blogger can be considered after the entry into force of the verdict on the basis of international agreements and norms. According to the law, every convicted person has the right of such treatment.
Lapshin was detained on December 16, 2016 in Minsk at the request of Azerbaijan, since he was included in the "black list" for visiting Nagorno-Karabakh without agreement with the Azerbaijani authorities.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan initiated a lawsuit under the Articles 281.2 (repeated public appeals directed against the state) and 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of Azerbaijan committed by a group of persons by preliminary conspiracy, or by an organized group or using violence or threat of its use) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment on July 20, 2017. -0-
