Ambassador Ekert hosted a breakfast on the occasion of the Human Rights Day
Baku/10.12.21/Turan: On the occasion of the Human Rights Day, the Czech Ambassador to Azerbaijan Milan Ekert hosted a breakfast with Azerbaijani human rights defenders on 10 December 2021.
The breakfast offered an opportunity for a discussion about the current human rights situation in Azerbaijan with the director of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev, lawyers Fuad Agayev and Yusif Agayev, psychologist Azad Isazade and chairman of the Republican Alternative (REAL) party Ilgar Mammadov.
Breakfasts are traditionally hosted by Czech Ambassadors abroad on 10 December as a symbolic reminder of the legendary breakfast held by the French president Mitterrand with 8 human rights defenders at the French Embassy in Prague in 1988. Ambassador Ekert dedicated the 2021 Human Rights Day reception to the memory of one of the participants of the 1988 event - leading human rights defender, journalist and former political prisoner Petr Uhl who passed away on 1 December 2021.—0—
