Armenia Faces Food Shortage - Ex-minister
Baku / 30.11.20 / Turan: As a result of territorial losses in and around Karabakh, serious food problems will arise in Armenia. Former Minister of Agriculture of Armenia Artur Khachatryan stated this.
Food security threats for Armenia are serious. The first threat is a possible shortage of grain. Armenia annually produces about 200 thousand tons of grain, while in those Azerbaijani territories that the Armenian invaders lost during the war, 150 thousand tons of grain were produced. “We have lost 75% of our grain. Armenia annually imports about 250 thousand tons of grain. The deficit will have to be filled with purchases abroad. Considering that the dollar rate will continue to grow, we will have a problem with the availability of bread and the price of it,” he said in an interview with News.am.
If the price of bread rises, the price of everything will rise. Cattle breeding was developed on the territories lost by the Armenians. As a result, a large number of livestock has been lost. This means a shortage of meat and milk as well, he noted. -02D-
