Armenian media about the future regime of the road through Zangezur
Baku/14.06.22/Turan: After Lavrov's statement about the "simplified regime" connecting Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan, the Armenian service of Radio Liberty reported some details.
Thus, according to the information received, Azerbaijani cargo and passengers entering the territory of Armenia will first be checked by Russian border guards, and then by the customs service of Armenia. Further, the transfer will be accompanied by an Armenian security group, which will include at least one Russian officer.
Will the same conditions apply for the entry of Armenian passengers and cargo into the territory of Azerbaijan? According to the same sources, negotiations are ongoing.
On June 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Yerevan that the railway route between Armenia and Azerbaijan had been agreed and now the agreement on the highway is being completed, and the communication regime between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be simplified.
Thus, according to the Armenian side, Armenian customs and passport control will be carried out on the railway and highways between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivn. The Armenian side emphasizes in every possible way that there will be nothing of the kind in the Lachin corridor, since this is a “free road”.
Armenia will pay customs duties for communication with Russia and other countries through the territory of Azerbaijan.
Many logistical and technical issues, including the route of the railway - Yeraskh-Julfa-Meghri-Horadiz, have not yet been agreed upon at the tripartite negotiations of the vice-premiers. However, there is controversy over the route of the motorway.
Baku offered two options: parallel to the railway or through Lachin to Goris and further through Sisian to the Bichenek pass. This route existed in the days of the USSR.
There is a lot of talk in Armenia that the Armenians are afraid to travel through Azerbaijan, because there is no one to protect them there. Thus, Azerbaijan and other countries will benefit from the opening of communications, but not Armenia. --02D--
