Armenian Security Council head's statement on normalization of relations with Turkey sparks storm
Baku/28.03.21/Turan: Armenia should unblock the borders not only with Azerbaijan, but also with the countries of the region, at the moment there are such opportunities. Secretary of the country's Security Council Armen Grigoryan said this on the air of the Public TV of Armenia, answering the question: does Turkey consider it as an enemy state in the concept of Armenia's security?
According to him, after the second Karabakh war, serious changes took place in the region, and the process of unblocking began on November 9. "In general, there should be a release not only with Azerbaijan, but we also need to have a broader regional approach, and we believe that at the moment these opportunities exist," he said.
At the same time, Grigoryan avoided answering the question whether he considers Turkey to be a hostile state.
"If we decide to unblock the region, then there should be certain changes in our approaches. It would be wrong to say unequivocally that no threat comes from Turkey, but the processes taking place in the region change the situation and provide other opportunities," he said.
These revelations of Grigoryan caused hysteria of the opposition and nationalists, who accused the head of the Security Council of treason. However, a similar opinion about the need to open borders with Turkey was expressed today by Prime Minister Pashinyan himself, speaking to the residents of the Armavir region of Armenia. -0-
