August 30 – International Day of the Missing
Baku/30.08.21/Turan: August 30 is marked as the International Day of the Missing to honor the memory of hundreds of thousands of people missing due to armed conflicts, violence, migration and natural disasters.
In turn, a press release of the Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross says that thousands of people of the region have gone missing due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. A vast number of people live with a heavy heart not knowing the fate of their loved ones.
It has to be kept in mind that the ICRC is working with appropriate authorities to back their efforts aimed at clarifying the fate of the missing and providing answers to the families.
"We want the families of the missing to know that their loved ones are not forgotten, and that they are not alone. Also, we will continue to support the states to do everything in their power to provide families with answers, thereby upholding the right of families to know," said Roberto Mardini, Director General of the ICRC.
According to the Azerbaijani State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing due to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, 3,890 people were registered, including 3,171 military, 719 civilians (71 children, 267 women and 326 elderly people).
Added to this can be that according to the Armenian sources, there were found several mass graves on lands occupied by Armenians during the first Karabakh war where hundreds of Azerbaijani soldiers were buried. These lands were liberated during the Second Karabakh War, so excavations on these graves might clarify many human destinies— - 06B—
