Azerbaijan and Algeria sign two doucments
Baku/10.08.22/Turan: The negotiations between the foreign ministers of the two countries - Jeyhun Bayramov and Ramtan Lamamr held in Baku on August 10, resulted in signing an agreement on between the governments of Azerbaijan and Algeria on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
The parties also signed a "Protocol on political consultations" between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reports.
During the talks, Bayramov pointed to the wide potential for further development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Algeria. Lamamr, in turn, noted the importance of maintaining the current political dialogue and the intensity of bilateral contacts and the development of energy and economic cooperation, the creation of friendship groups.
He stressed that Algeria unconditionally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the inviolability of its internationally recognized borders.
The parties also discussed issues of interaction between countries in various international and regional formats, including the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. --06D--

President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to the heads of state and government of Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Bangladesh for their unanimous support in admitting Azerbaijan to the D-8 during the summit held in Cairo on December 19.

On December 19, at the Baku Court for Serious Crimes, during the trial of activist Rail Abbasov, the prosecutor delivered their closing statement. The prosecutor proposed finding Abbasov guilty of fraud and sentencing him to 8 years in prison. The defense disagrees with the prosecutor, arguing that the court has not proven Abbasov's guilt.

The Baku Sabail District Court has extended the pre-trial detention of young researcher Bahruz Samadov, who is accused of "treason," until March 9, 2025. An appeal will be filed against this decision. Samadov denies the charges and believes that he is being persecuted for his anti-war activities. Samadov was arrested on August 21 on charges of treason, and two days later, the court sentenced him to four months in detention.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation brings together eight Muslim countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, and Pakistan. It was established on October 22, 1996, in Istanbul at the initiative of Türkiye.
