Azerbaijan Improves Position in Passport Index
Baku / 01.10.19 / Turan: On October 1, Henley & Partners published the Passport Index, which reflects the possibilities of a visa-free regime of the countries of the world today.
As stated in the company's press release, the top three ranking leaders have not changed. The first place in the Index is occupied by Japan and Singapore. Passports of these countries allow you to visit without a visa 190 destinations out of 227 possible. The second place is shared by Germany, Finland and South Korea - 188 visa-free countries. Denmark, Italy and Luxembourg are still on the third line - 187 destinations. Great Britain and the USA are still in 6th place - the lowest since 2010. In 2014, both countries took first place in the ranking.
The most successful in the last quarter were the United Arab Emirates. The country climbed five lines, receiving visa-free access to a number of African countries and occupies 15th place (172 destinations).
By the fourth quarter of 2019, Azerbaijan moved up two lines in the Index and now occupies 76th place, although visa-free countries remained the same - 66 directions.
The indicators of neighboring countries of Azerbaijan have not changed significantly. Russian citizens received visa-free access in Sierra Leone, and now they can visit 117 countries without a visa. The indicators of Kazakhstan remained the same - 75 visa-free countries. For three months, Turkey received visa-free access to two countries, and now the total number of its visa-free destinations is 112.
Georgia occupies the 50th place; its citizens can visit 114 countries, and Armenia is in 81st place with an indicator of 60 countries.
Malta and Cyprus, known for their citizenship through investment programs, have improved. Malta citizens can visit 183 countries of the world without a visa. Cyprus shared 14th place with Monaco - 173 countries. Malta's investment program allows you to obtain citizenship in 12-15 months for investments starting from EUR 1 million. A similar program in Cyprus allows citizenship in 6-9 months for investments from EUR 2.15 million. Montenegro also launches the Citizenship through Investments program in the near future (minimum investment amount - from EUR 350 thousand). Montenegrin citizens can visit 122 countries of the world without a visa (46th place).
Afghanistan is in the last 107th place of the Index with visa-free access to 25 countries.
