Azerbaijan is behind Georgia in passport index
Baku / 07.07.19 / Turan: Henley & Partners has published the traditional "Passport Index", which shows the status of visa-free travel in countries around the world this year.
The first place in the Index was left for Japan and Singapore, whose passports allow visiting 189 countries of the world without a visa. South Korea, which was also on the first line three months ago, lost two positions and now ranks second along with Germany and Finland (187 countries).
The top three are Denmark, Italy and Luxembourg (186 countries).
The United States and the United Kingdom rank the 6th (183 countries) - the lowest position they have occupied since 2010.
Of the countries of the South Caucasus, Georgia ranked highest - 52nd, dividing it with Albania. Now citizens of Georgia can visit 113 countries without a visa.
Citizens of Azerbaijan can visit only 66 countries without a visa, and Turkey - 110 countries, Russia - 113 countries.
Armenia ranked 84 in the index, whose citizens can visit 60 countries without a visa.
Afghanistan is in the last 109th Index with a visa-free access to 25 countries.

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. At the beginning of the trial, he stated that he had been illegally detained for 4 months, and because of this, his family in Moldova was in a difficult situation, Turan announced this on its Twitter.

The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
