Baku / 22.11.17 / Turan: Azerbaijan intends to strengthen and develop relations with NATO, assist in the implementation of programs to support the forces of the international coalition in Afghanistan and participate in supporting the state structures of this country. This was announced by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev who arrived in Brussels, speaking today at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO Headquarters.
Aliyev noted that with the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the shortest way has been opened from Europe to Asia and specifically to Afghanistan, which will simplify the issues of supplies to Afghanistan and the forces of the international coalition.
"We have good and strong relations with NATO and we want to further strengthen them," Aliyev said.
In his turn, Jens Stoltenberg noted that the partnership of NATO with Azerbaijan is based on adherence to democratic values and on energy security issues.
NATO helps in the creation of the security system of Azerbaijan and in the fight against corruption and is grateful for providing a corridor for supplying the coalition forces in Afghanistan. -02B-
