Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry criticizes statements of France and Canada
Baku/08.05.21/Turan: The Foreign Ministries of France and Canada welcomed the recent release of three Armenian detainees by Azerbaijan, calling this a positive step, calling for the release of the rest of the Armenians.
Commenting on these statements, the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva stated that this is not the first humane step taken by Azerbaijan, and that earlier more than 70 Armenian captives were released.
In turn, 20 days after the end of the war, Armenia sent military to Azerbaijan. As a result of the terrorist act committed by these servicemen, 4 Azerbaijani servicemen were killed and one civilian was injured.
“We draw the attention of the Foreign Ministries of both countries to the fact that the Armenian side still does not fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, as well as its obligations under trilateral statements.
About 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing during the first war of 1991-94. Armenia has not yet provided information about these people, and also refused to provide maps of minefields in the liberated regions,” Abdullayeva said.
If the Foreign Ministries of France and Canada want to take an objective approach on this issue then let them call on Armenia to abide by its obligations under international humanitarian law and refrain from actions that could endanger lasting peace in the region. Otherwise, it will seriously undermine the confidence of the Azerbaijani society in both countries, the Foreign Ministry said. -0-
