Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responds to US State Department
Baku/01.09.23/Turan: The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry rejects the accusations made in the US State Department's statement regarding the Lachin corridor.
"Statements about the 'blockade' of the Lachin corridor are unacceptable amid the Azerbaijani side's proposals to meet demands of the Armenian population, including the Lachin road itself in parallel with the Aghdam-Khankandi road, as well as the fact that dozens of Armenians pass through the Lachin border crossing in both directions every day." This is stated in the comments of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizadeh in response to the statement of US State Department spokesman Matthew Millire dated 31 August.
It is impossible to speak of a "tense humanitarian situation" against the background of attempts by a group of Armenians to prevent the delivery of humanitarian cargo of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society to Karabakh. This cargo is still awaiting passage on the Aghdam-Khankandi road.
The American side is well aware that Azerbaijan has repeatedly invited the Armenian residents to meet with the special representative of Azerbaijan; however, the Armenian side has been evading the agreements already reached under various pretexts in every possible way.
"The constant rejection of the Azerbaijani side's proposals once again demonstrates that the situation is not humanitarian at all, but rather political in nature.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is determined to establish peace, security and stability in the region on the basis of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, as well as reintegrate the Armenian population within the framework of the legislation of our country," the commentary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted. -0-
