Bayramov and Abdollahian noted the importance of mutual contacts between Azerbaijan and Iran
Baku/25.06.23/Turan: Today, a telephone conversation took place between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran - Jeyhun Bayramov and Huseyn Amir Abdollahian.
During the telephone conversation, the current state and prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran were discussed.
The importance of negotiations and mutual contacts between the structures and officials of the two countries in a number of areas of bilateral and regional relations, including economic and transport projects, was noted, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Along with this, the importance of continuing negotiations on issues on the bilateral agenda and their solution was emphasized. During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views also took place on a number of multilateral and regional issues, the press release concludes.
Relations between Baku and Tehran began to deteriorate after Iran sharply opposed the Zangezur corridor project last year and began conducting military exercises near the border with Azerbaijan. Iranian politicians also began to threaten Azerbaijan because of the decision to open an embassy in Israel.
Relations finally deteriorated after an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, which resulted in the death of an employee of the diplomatic mission.
Recently, however, Tehran has begun to take diplomatic steps to normalize relations. Baku sets as a condition for this the identification and punishment of all those involved in the terrorist act against the Azerbaijani embassy—06B-
