Campaign in Support of Republic of Azerbaijan Started in Iranian Azerbaijan
Baku / 15.10.20 / Turan: A campaign in support of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its army has begun in Iranian Azerbaijan (South Azerbaijan).
“We are not next to Azerbaijan, we ourselves are Azerbaijan” - this is the slogan of the campaign, in which thousands of ethnic Azerbaijanis are participating in different parts of Iran.
Participants are photographed with Azerbaijani flags and with this slogan written on their T-shirts and disseminated on social networks.
In addition, protests were held in Iran demanding the closure of the Iranian-Armenian border. During the riots, protesters set fire to several trucks that were allegedly transporting weapons to Armenia.
At the same time, several rallies were held in Ardabil, Urmia, Tabriz and in Tehran itself in support of the just cause of Azerbaijan. Dozens of protesters were arrested, but immediately after that, representatives of official Tehran made statements calling for ensuring the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories. -03B-

On February 6, pro-government media reported 6 that Azerbaijan is demanding the closure of the “Rossotrudnichestvo” representation in the country, as this organization is not registered in Azerbaijan. Requests from Turan agency to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan to confirm this information went unanswered.

A statement of the organization noted that this is the latest in a series of troubling state attacks on independent media in Azerbaijan. On the same day, another journalist, Shamshad Aga, was detained.

Shamshad Aga, editor of the "Argument.az" website, has been found guilty in the Meydan TV case of smuggling (Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced to two months and one day in detention. The decision was made on February 6 by the Khatai District Court of Baku, as reported by Turan, citing his lawyer, Shahla Humbatova.
