CEC to Consider Mehman Huseynov’s Complaint about Attempted Bribery by Faraj Guliyev
Baku / 05.02.20 / Turan: Consideration of the complaint of the candidate for deputy in the 31st Surakhany Second District by blogger Mehman Huseynov about an attempt to bribe him from an opponent in the parliamentary elections, Faraj Guliyev, will be considered on February 5 at a meeting of the CEC scheduled for 16.00. This was reported to Turan by a source in the CEC.
He refrained from talking about a possible solution, noting that the CEC would hear the conclusions of the Expert Group investigating the complaint. Huseynov himself said he was not yet invited to the meeting.
“I was told yesterday that if there is a meeting on February 5, then my complaint will be examined. But, I don’t know if they will invite me,” Huseynov told Turan.
Recall that on February 1, Huseynov released an audio recording of his conversation with Faraj Guliyev, who offered the blogger to withdraw his candidacy in exchange for 15,000 manat.
Guliyev acknowledged the authenticity of the record, and stated that he was offering money for treatment, and not as a bribe.
Lawyers believe that Guliyev’s actions contain signs of a criminal act and his candidacy should be annulled.
Faraj Guliyev is known for having abandoned the opposition camp in the early 2000s. In 1995, he was convicted and spent several years in prison. In 2002, he was pardoned and after his release, he began to sharply criticize his former associates - the Democrats and supporters of the Popular Front.
In 2010 and 2015, Guliyev was elected as a deputy of the parliament as chairman of the National Revival Movement party. –06D--
