Construction of the Lachin International Airport launched
Baku/17.08.21/Turan: With the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, the foundation laying ceremony of the Lachin International Airport was held on August 16. The facility will be built near the mountainous village of Gorchu.
The length of the runway will be 3 km; 6 aircraft parking lots will be built at the airfield. This airport is designed to simplify visits to the Kelbajar district.
President Aliyev declared at the laying ceremony that three international airports will be built on the liberated territories. Thus, the construction of airports in Fizuli and Zangilan is already underway. The first airport will be ready by the end of this year or by the beginning of the next year while the Zangilan airport will be commissioned in 2022.
It has to emphasized that from the future airport in Lachin to the regional center of Kelbajar is 60 km and about 70 km to the city of Shusha. That is, it'd be be possible to get to Shusha by plane both through the Fizuli and Lachin airports, Aliyev added.
During the construction of the Lachin airport, earthworks will take a long time. The construction of airports will open up new opportunities for the restoration of the regions liberated from occupation – Eastern Zangezur and Karabakh, and the return of people there.
When it comes to the deadlines of the Lachin airport completion, Aliyev noted that it is difficult to speak in advance, since there are logistical problems. "It's summer now, but it will snow here in October and the use of roads will be difficult," he said.
In the Soviet times, there had never been any airfields in the Kelbajar-Lachin zone due to high project costs and difficulties of finding an acceptable place, Aliyev noted as saying that the airport will be built by an Azerbaijani company. -03D06-
