Court of Appeal does not satisfy Hasanli's complaint against ban on telephone conversations with lawyer
Baku/28.12.23/Turan: Baku Court of Appeal on 28 December considered the complaint against the ban on telephone conversations with the lawyer imposed on the director of the Internet publication "Abzas Media" Ulvi Hasanli.
This was reported by lawyer Zibeida Sadigova.
She noted that although she is provided with meetings with Hasanli in Baku pre-trial detention centre-1, but communication by phone is prohibited.
However, the appeal instance, failing to satisfy the complaint, upheld the decision of Khatai district court.
"Earlier, Khatai district court did not satisfy our complaint, claiming that there is no restriction on Hasanli's telephone conversations with his lawyer. But the ban actually exists. I cannot go to the pre-trial detention centre often because of the large number of my other lawyer's cases, and Hasanli is not allowed to, at least, consult with me by phone. He repeatedly tried to call me, but he was not allowed. He appealed in writing to the management of the pre-trial detention centre, but in vain," Sadygova said.
She noted that earlier the investigative body had imposed a ban on Hasanli's phone calls and meetings with his relatives.
*Ulvi Hasanli was detained on 20 November. The next day the court arrested him for 4 months on smuggling charges. Hasanli denied the charges and linked them to "Abzas Media"s corruption investigations. Journalists Sevinj Vagifghyzy, Hafiz Babaly, Nargiz Absalamova and Mohammed Kekalov were also arrested in the case. -06В-
