Credit unions of Azerbaijan lost AZN 0.4 mln in 1st quarter
Baku/25.04.22/Turan: The Central Bank of Azerbaijan published a survey of credit unions for the first quarter of 2022. The document says that credit unions of Azerbaijan lost AZN 0.4 million during the quarter. It is down by about 33% from the same period of the last year.
In the reporting period the credit unions received AZN 0.5 million of interest income, AZN 0.3 million of non-interest income, incurred small interest expenses, AZN 0.3 million of non-interest expenses, created special reserves on overdue loans for AZN 0.8 million and paid AZN 0.1 million of profit tax.
The financial indices of microfinance organizations are published once a quarter. -0-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
