Delegation of the Milli Majlis to take part in PACE winter session
Baku/21.01.23/Turan: A delegation of the Milli Majlis (MM), headed by the chairman of the committee on international relations Samed Seyidov, will take part in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on January 23-27, theMilli Majlis reported.
One of the highlights of the winter plenary session will be an urgent discussion “on the legal and human rights aspects of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine,” with the participation of Oleksandra Matviychuk, head of the Center for Civil Liberties and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner, a press release from the Council of Europe. PACE proposals regarding the agenda of the fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the member states of the Council of Europe, which will be held in the capital of Iceland on May 16-17.`
Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock will address the deputies. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Maria Pejcinovic Buric, will present her address to the PACE members. The Assembly will also elect its President and Vice Presidents.
Combating violence against women will also be the focus of the session.
Other topics on the agenda of the session include the impact of armed conflicts on the environment, problems associated with the use of tracking programs, and others.

On February 3, the trial of public activist Nijat Ibrahim will begin in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. This decision was made on Wednesday at a preparatory hearing by Judge Aygun Gurbanova. According to lawyer Zibeida Sadigova, Ibrahim was taken to court in handcuffs. There were guards sitting next to him throughout the whole process.
