ECHR admits torture against Seymour Hazi and four more activists
Baku / 06.11.20 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights announced a decision on the case "Khaziyev and others against Azerbaijan" yesterday.
The talk is about complaints of torture and unjustified arrest of political and civil activists: Seymur Khazi, Magrub Badalli, Abdulla Yolbarsoy, Mamed Azizov and Murad Adilov.
The ECHR ruled to pay compensation to Khazi for 12,000 euros, Badalli - 9,750 euros, Yolbarsoy - 7,500 euros, the other two - 2,000 euros.
This was announced by the lawyer Fariz Namazly, who represented Khazi and Azizov at the ECHR.
Seymur Hazi is the deputy chair of one of the leading opposition parties in the country, the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan.
Khazi was arrested in 2014 on charges of hooliganism, sentenced to 5 years in prison, and served this term in full.
Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. —06D-
