ECHR announced decisions on four complaints from Azerbaijan
Baku/22.04.21/Turan: On 22 April, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) announced decisions on four complaints from Azerbaijan.
Lawyer Khalid Agaliyev told Turan that the ECHR recognized a violation of the rights of the editor of the Khural newspaper Avaz Zeynalli under the Article 5 (right to liberty and security of person); Article 6 (right to a fair trial; Article 8 (respect for private life) and Article 10 (freedom of expression) of the European Convention.
Zeynalli appealed against his arrest and imprisonment on charges of accepting a bribe from ex-MP Gular Ahmedova.
The ECHR ordered the Azerbaijani government to pay Zeynalli compensation of 13 thousand euros.
Another 7,500 euros will be paid to journalist Elchin Hasanov, who appealed against his detention during the filming of a peaceful rally and beating by police officers.
The ECHR admitted that the Article 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Bahtiyar Hajiyev, in his complaint, pointed to the unlawful detention and detention in the Ganja police and asked to admit a violation of Article 3 of the European Convention.
The Strasbourg court ordered the Azerbaijani authorities to pay him compensation in the amount of 12,850 euros.
Hussein Abdulvahabov, found guilty of creating a criminal community, abductions and murders, complained about unfounded criminal prosecution.
However, the ECtHR excluded the proceedings on his complaint from the list of pending cases. –16D06-
