As a result of the Ministerial Council, the Tashkent Communiqué was adopted, which, at the suggestion of Kazakhstan, provides for the development of interaction between the ECO and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). As a CICA chair country, Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to contribute to the practical implementation of this proposal.
The meeting participants discussed a wide range of issues to improve the efficiency of interaction between the ECO member states in the areas of trade, investment, food security, ecology, agriculture, transport corridors, etc., and also made proposals for the further development of economic ties in the ECO space.
The Council approved the ECO Work Program and Calendar of Events for 2023, which will be implemented this year under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.
The final communique also expressed support for the settlement of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of mutual recognition and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. Support was also expressed for the establishment of transport and communication links between the East Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that during the period of Azerbaijan's chairmanship in 2023, a number of high-level meetings will be held in the field of economy, energy, transport, customs, border crossings, justice, tourism and healthcare.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov presiding at the meeting, noted that in the context of global tension and growing competition for resources, investments, technologies and access to foreign markets, the unification of efforts of ECO members is of particular importance.
"The high level of representation of all member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization indicates an increased attention to close cooperation within our organization and indicates its growing potential," said Saidov.—0-
