Election Date Modified

Milli Majlis amended the Electoral Code, which involves changing the date of the upcoming presidential election.

The fact is that the presidential elections were scheduled for October 16, 2013. However, this year October 15-16 are non-working days on the occasion of Kurban Bairam (Holy Sacrifice Day).

Therefore, it was decided to amend the legislation. Now, if the election falls on a holiday non-working day, the day of voting is postponed to another day of the month.

The amendment will enter into force after its approval by the President and published in the press.

The bill, however, does not specify for how many days the forward elections could be postponed.

According to the Head of the Law and Development Center Hafiz Hasanov, the elections should be postponed to a later date.

Much more alarming is the amendment to the Constitution of the possibility of canceling the elections in connection with military operations, he said. -06B-
