Expert Comments on Appointment of New Prime Minister
Baku / 08.10.19 / Turan: "The state structure and realities of Azerbaijan are in such a state that the personality of the person holding the post of Prime Minister has nothing to do. In particular, a change of Prime ministers in this style further diminishes the authority of this post. Therefore, I regard the change of the Prime Minister as an event that does not matter," said Isa Gambar, head of the Center for National Strategic Thought, commenting on the appointment of Ali Asadov as the country's Prime Minister.
He negatively answered the question whether the new Prime Minister will be able to influence reforms in the country. In his opinion, Asadov cannot bring any innovations.
"There are no people with reformist ideas in the ruling team, and if there are, they are not known to the public. The decisions are made by one person, so the change of officials at the posts does not change anything," Gambar told Turan.
The head of the Musavat party, Arif Hajili, was also skeptical of the change of the Prime Minister. According to him, functionally, the Prime Minister does not play an important role in the hierarchy of power,
"In Azerbaijan, in fact, the head of government is not the Prime Minister, but the President. The entire hierarchy in power is ultimately subordinate to the President.
In addition, the post of First Vice President has been established, which also exercises powers related to the Prime Minister," Hajili said.
Member of the parliamentary committee on economic policy Vahid Ahmedov believes that Asadov will contribute to the development of the Azerbaijani economy.
"I ask you to pay great attention to the development of the non-oil sector, to take into account the claims of the Accounts Chamber to the state budget projects, which are very cumbersome - 100 pages, "Ahmedov said during today's discussions in parliament. -06D--
