Facebook Declares War on Trolls: Azerbaijan among Countries with Active Ones
Baku / 05.04.18 / Turan: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the removal of 273 pages and accounts due to communication with the Russian company Agency for Internet Research (AII). This company is also known as the pro-Kremlin "troll factory" - the US authorities officially accuse it of interfering in the presidential election in 2016.
In 2017, Facebook deleted the English-language content of the AII: 120 pages (groups) and 170 accounts in Instagram - an application for sharing photos and videos.
On Tuesday, April 3, Facebook began to delete Russian-language accounts of the "troll factory". "This Russian agency has repeatedly acted with deception, trying to manipulate people in the US, Europe and Russia, and we do not want to see it on Facebook in any part of the world," Zuckerberg wrote on his social network page.
One of the first to report on its blocking was Federal News Agency (RIA FAN). Its representatives said that also "without any reason and explanation" pages of the publications Nevsky News, Journalistic Truth, Economy Today and Politics Today were blocked. All these projects were connected with the "troll factory".
According to the Facebook report, the subscribers of remote accounts around the world were about one million people, of which 29,000 were in Azerbaijan.
In addition, Facebook has deleted or blocked accounts of a number of trolls in Azerbaijan itself.
In the coming weeks, Facebook promises to release an update, through which users of the social network will be able to check whether they are subscribed to accounts or pages that are secretly managed by the AII.
Zuckerberg argues that this measure is aimed at protecting the integrity of the electoral process throughout the world.
On April 10, Zuckerberg will address the US Congress, where he will talk in detail about measures to combat trolls. -02D-
