Foreign Ministers of Russia and Armenia discussed situation around Karabakh
Baku/06.09.22/Turan: On September 5 in Moscow, the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Armenia Sergey Lavrov and Ararat Mirzoyan discussed issues of delimitation and security of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, activities on unblocking economic and transport infrastructures in the region.
According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the sides thoroughly touched upon the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, as well as the Karabakh conflict.
"Mirzoyan stressed the importance of efforts of the Russian side, including within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship, aimed at a long-term and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The importance of implementing the agreements reached by the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 was confirmed.
The important role of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh in strengthening the ceasefire regime and preventing provocations in the conflict zone, ensuring the safety and living conditions of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh was noted.
Touching upon the humanitarian issues that arose as a result of the 44-day war, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the necessity for the speedy return of Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons, as well as the preservation of the Armenian cultural and historical heritage in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan," the message reads.
In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry in its press release stated that the meeting was focused upon the regional issues. "The commitment to the comprehensive implementation of the agreements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 was confirmed.
Further steps were discussed in the context of unblocking all economic and transport communications, efforts on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as developing the parameters of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan."
At the beginning of the meeting, Sergey Lavrov noted: "We will pay attention to international and regional issues in order to report on how the trilateral agreements of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on the settlement of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh are being implemented." -02D-
