Head of Nakhchivan penitentiary service arrested
Baku/01.02.23/Turan: Deputy Minister of Justice of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), head of the penitentiary service of the region Tofig Hasanov has been arrested.
On January 27, the Sabail district court of Baku chose a preventive measure against him in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months.
As Turan was informed in court, he was charged under 179.2.2, 179.2.2, 179.2.4 (embezzlement or embezzlement with significant damage) and 311.3.2, 311.3.3 (taking a large bribe) of the Criminal Code.
Tofig Hasanov, who has the military rank of Major General of Justice, faces up to 12 years of imprisonment.
According to local media, Hasanov was arrested in a case being investigated by the main investigative department of the State Security Service.
Earlier, the State Security Service had already arrested three high-ranking officials in Nakhchivan. After that, the head of the Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan, Vasif Talibov, resigned and inspections of his business structures began.
All power in the region was transferred to the appointed Presidential envoy Fuad Najafli. -03B06-

According to reports from "Abzas Media," the inmate in the Baku pre-trial detention facility-, Maleyka Bekirova was allegedly beaten on September 23 by the facility's warden, Adalat Gurbanov, when she attempted to make a phone call. The report claims that Gurbanov took Bekirova from her cell number 35 to an illegally established "punishment cell" and assaulted her. Witnesses allegedly described Gurbanov choking Bekirova and slapping her before throwing her onto a bunk, leaving marks on her face and chest.
