Ilgar Mammadov"s Lawyer Files Lawsuit Against CEC
Khalid Bagirov, lawyer for Ilgar Mammadov, the arrested REAL leader, complained to the Baku Court of Appeal about the CEC, citing unfounded delays in the confirmation of Mammadov as presidential candidate.
On August 24, the Azerbaijan Central Election Commission postponed consideration of the approval of Ilgar Mammadov for an indefinite period of time, seeing "errors" in Mammadov’s candidacy documents.
Ilgar Mammadov was arrested February 4 on charges that he organized riots in the Ismailly region on January 23-24. REAL and international organizations consider the arrest of Mammadov politically motivated. Amnesty International recognized Mammadov “a prisoner of conscience.”—1606B--
