Ilham Aliyev holds meeting on development of cotton
A meeting on the development of cotton production is taking place in the Sabirabad region with the participation of the President Ilham Aliyev. According to the official report, Aliyev visited the cotton fields and talked to the workers in the field. Previously Aliyev stated about the need to revive cotton production in the country, calling to collect this year's 30,000 tons of cotton, and in the future to increase production to 100,000 tons.
Cotton used to be one of the leading sectors of agriculture in the Soviet Azerbaijan. However, it was of a declarative nature, since there were not conditions for the effective development of cotton. In the years of perestroika “ false registry” was made public in this area. So, for the fulfillment of the state plan raw cotton was purchased in the republics of Central Asia, but this fact was concealed.
With the development of market relations cotton growing in Azerbaijan has fallen. Now the government is trying to revive cotton in the framework of the declared economic diversification and development of agricultural production. –06d—
