International organization condemns ban on journalist leaving Azerbaijan
The international organization "Women Press Freedom" has condemned the travel ban imposed on journalist Khanum Mustafayeva in Azerbaijan
Last Saturday, Mustafayeva was prohibited from leaving the country without any explanation. Mustafayeva, who resides abroad, returned in December 2024 to visit her family, according to a statement issued by the organization on the social platform X.
"Despite there being no criminal case against her, she was denied permission to return to Türkiye. This is part of a disturbing pattern of state persecution against independent journalists. Last year, dozens of journalists and activists faced imprisonment or travel bans, stifling dissent," the statement reads. Condemning these repressive actions, Women Press Freedom called for "transparency, accountability, and the immediate cessation of these authoritarian measures." The statement concludes: "Mustafayeva must be allowed to travel freely."
