International organizations urged to open schools from 15 September
Baku/01.09.21/Turan: WHO and UNICEF call on the Azerbaijani authorities to take serious security measures in schools in connection with the start of the school year.
The talk is about the need to vaccinate teachers and the rest of the school staff, improve classroom ventilation, reduce the number of students in classrooms, keep a distance, and conduct antiviral testing of staff.
Hande Harmanji, WHO Representative in Azerbaijan, notes that school closures have long-term negative consequences. "WHO urges countries, including Azerbaijan, to keep schools open, minimizing the risk of spreading various strains of COVID-19."
In turn, the representative of UNICEF Azerbaijan, Alex Haykens, noted that the closure of schools has a serious negative impact on children.
“Children and young people should not be at risk of dropping out for another year,” he said, calling for schools to be safely reopened from September 15th. -02D-
