Lawyer Neymat Karimli declared physical pressure on him
Baku/20.09.19/Turan: Lawyer Neymat Karimli announced pressure on him in jail No. 16, search of his personal belongings and notes.
On the morning of September 20, he went to the jail No. 16 to meet with his client, an investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarly.
According to the lawyer, he was first made to wait a long time. "Then they conducted an inspection. Although it was illegal, but I agreed. They checked everything, even shoes and socks," Karimli told Turan.
After the meeting with Mukhtarly, the lawyer was again searched, despite his objections and a reminder of the illegality of such actions.
At the same time, his bag was taken from the lawyer by force, and the contents were poured onto the table.
His notes were read and assigned to the head along with the documents. Karimli himself was enclosed in one of the rooms.
After 50 minutes, the lawyer was released, and they returned his items.
Karimli said he would file a complaint with the Prison Service.
In turn, the head of the public relations department of the Prison Service, Mehman Sadigov, said he did not have information about what the lawyer said.
"If the lawyer claims that such a case has occurred, and then let him officially contact the Prison Service," said Sadigov.
Investigative journalist Afghan Mukhtarli was abducted in May 2017 in Tbilisi, secretly transported to Azerbaijan and arrested. Subsequently, the court sentenced him to 6 years in prison on charges of smuggling and violence against the border guard.
Amnesty International recognized Mukhtarly as a "prisoner of conscience."
In April 2018, Karimli's powers were suspended by the Bar Association for a period of 1 year.
Many observers connect this decision precisely with the participation of Karimli in the defense of Mukhtarli. -06D-
