Meeting of Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran
Baku /24.10.19 / Turan: On October 24, the head of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who arrived in Baku to attend the summit of the leaders of the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The President of Azerbaijan expressed satisfaction that “the brotherly country” is represented at the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement at the highest level. “Tomorrow Azerbaijan will chair this important institution. For three years, we will try to adequately defend the interests of participating States at various international events. Of course, your visit is a good opportunity to discuss the bilateral agenda and take measures for further cooperation,” Aliyev emphasized.
In his opinion, "the bilateral relations are at the highest level."
Last year, trade between the two countries increased by more than 70 percent. Over the nine months of this year, it again grew by 45 percent. “I am glad that the North-South transport corridor jointly implemented by us is successfully functioning. Last year, 8 times more cargo was transported along this corridor. As I was informed, over the nine months of this year, freight traffic increased by 70 percent. As we agreed with you, the South-West transport corridor is also currently operating,” Aliyev said.
He pointed out the mutual investments of the two countries. “Based on Iranian technology, a car factory operates. Currently, design work is underway related to the construction of a bus factory,” Aliyev continued.
Rouhani also expressed satisfaction that the bilateral ties "have advanced in various fields, including in the field of economics, culture, science and other areas."
“I want to assure you that the state and people of Iran have always been and will be with the Azerbaijani state and the Azerbaijani people. I hope that at today's meeting we will also exchange views on topics of interest to both sides,” the Iranian President emphasized. —06D—
