Memorial Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan
Baku/27.09.22/Turan: Today, on September 27, Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of Remembrance (Anım Günü), dedicated to the day of the beginning of the Patriotic War for the liberation of the territories occupied by Armenia.
The war lasted 44 days and ended on November 10, when the Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a cease-fire statement on November 10, 2020.
By this time, 5 cities (Jabrail, Fuzuli, Zangelan, Gubadli, Shusha), 4 villages and 240 villages had come under the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, and control over the Azerbaijani-Iranian border was restored. According to the Statement, Armenia withdrew its troops and returned the Kelbajar, Aghdam, and Lachin districts to Azerbaijan.
Today, Azerbaijani citizens pay tribute to the memory of 2,908 martyrs who gave their lives for the liberation of the lands occupied by Armenia.
A Minute of Remembrance has been announced for 12.00 hours across the country.
The Memorial Day was established by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated December 2, 2020. –0—

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. At the beginning of the trial, he stated that he had been illegally detained for 4 months, and because of this, his family in Moldova was in a difficult situation, Turan announced this on its Twitter.

The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
