Mustafa Jamil: Referendum held under occupation is nonsense
Former head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars , MP of Ukraine, Mustafa Jamilev, spoke at the hearing in the UN Security Council. The event was organized by the Delegation of Lithuania. In his speech, Jamilev said that a referendum was held in Crimea under "occupation."
In 1994, the United States, Britain and Russia were the guarantors of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in connection with the failure of its nuclear weapons. "However, Russia behaves not as a guarantor, but as the aggressor," Jamil said. Of 180,000 Crimean Tatars, only one thousand participated in the voting.
Therefore, the claims that participation of 87% of the population in a referendum is a lie. Actual turnout was less than 30%, he said.
"In this issue, when you need it, we will have a referendum. It will be open, and we demand from international observers structures," said the leader of the Crimean Tatars.
Jamilev also reported the seizure by the Russian military in the Crimea the churches of the diocese in Kiev. In response, Muftiate of Crimea offered parishioners of these churches to perform ceremonies in Tatar mosques.
After the speeches at the UN , Jamilev will visit Washington to meet with senators, and will make a speech in the Karnegi Fund.—05D06-
