National Council: Authorities return to pre-war policies of repression and corruption
Baku/04.05.21/Turan: The Azerbaijani authorities are rapidly returning repression and corruption to the agenda, as it was before the Second Karabakh War, a statement by the National Council of Democratic Forces. During the war, the Azerbaijani public hoped that the government would abandon its previous course and there would be changes for the better in the country, although not immediately.
“Unfortunately, the government and Ilham Aliyev personally have demonstrated that they do not intend to give up their negative attitude towards the political opposition. So, shortly after the end of the war, politically motivated arrests resumed, mainly against members and supporters of the Popular Front Party,” the statement said.
A vivid example of this is the verdict against Sayeed Bakuvi - a member of the Popular Front Party, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison on charges of hooliganism.
The PFPA supporter Lachin Veliyev was detained and charged with drug trafficking. He was demanded to stipulate another member of the Popular Front Party, Bahtiyar Imanov. Veliyev was blackmailed by the distribution of a video filmed with a hidden camera in his apartment. Having failed to achieve their goal, the authorities brought criminal charges against him.
PFPA Ganja branch activist Shahin Hajiyev was arrested twice for criticizing the authorities on Facebook. He was forced to suspend his activities on social networks, under the threat of long imprisonment.
The threat to NCDF member Tofig Yagublu has not been eliminated, and the criminal case against his has not been closed.
Pressure on the member of the NCDF Coordination Center Gultekin Hajibeyli continues. The court imposed an unreasonable fine of 91,000 manats on her. In case of non-payment, her house and car will be confiscated. In Europe, there have been physical attacks on expatriate bloggers who harshly criticized the Azerbaijani government.
Cybercrimes against political opponents on social media have also intensified. Earlier, hackers seized the pages of the chair of the NCDF Jamil Hasanli.
The blockade of Internet communications, introduced a year ago to the chair of the Popular Front Party Ali Karimli, has not yet been lifted.
In general, the government is fighting against critics in the face of the NCDF, using arrests, torture, threats, moral terror, physical attacks, cybercrime and Internet blockade. It seems that the efforts of local and international structures to call on the authorities to civilized relations with opponents were not heard.
“The Azerbaijani government still does not comply with its international obligations or the Constitution and laws. This means that the Azerbaijani public and the democratic world must do more so that the government of Ilham Aliyev fulfills its constitutional and international obligations,” the NCDF statement concludes. -06D-

The reality is that the world's population continues to grow dramatically, and this growth is indicative of an enormous food challenge to feed the world's population if it reaches 10 billion people. This is expected to happen soon, requiring a significant increase in agricultural production at much faster rates than in the past, said U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack and White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Mallory at the COP29 climate conference on 19 November, answering questions from Turan.
