NCDF Calls Musavat and ReAl for Rallies
Baku / 27.02.18 / Turan: The National Council of Democratic Forces appealed to the Musavat Party and the Republican Alternative Movement (ReAl) with an initiative to hold a national rally against the extraordinary presidential elections scheduled for April 11.
This was stated by the chairman of NCDF Jamil Hasanli. He recalled that NCDF decided to boycott the elections in view of the absence of a democratic atmosphere in Azerbaijan for the conduct of the election campaign, suppression of the free press, and the presence of 160 political prisoners.
In addition, as Hasanli noted, the authorities did not bring any reasonable arguments in favor of holding the elections 6 months ahead of schedule.
Hasanli said NCDF "does not intend to participate in this farce called 'early elections' and does not recognize falsified and illegitimate elections,".
He welcomed the decisions of the Musavat Party, the ReAl movement and a number of other socio-political organizations about not participating in elections and not recognizing their results.
NCDF also highly appreciated the close proximity of positions on this political issue in the opposition camp.
NCDF considered it necessary to begin mass protest actions against what it called "false elections" in March and appealed to the Musavat Party and the ReAl movement to support them.
NCDF believes joint public actions of political forces and social movements will be an important step for expressing resistance against elections presumably going to be "falsified by the authorities". --0-----
